Y2J update

Guys here’s a little update on the Y2J problem…

Jericho tweeted that

“Thanks to all of my Jerichoholics for an amazing 9 months! I have the BEST fans and I promise u haven’t seen the last of Y2J! See u on tour.”

So he’ll be back for sure. And someone pointed out that Jericho left on RAW episode number 1004. For those of you who don’t know, Jericho in WCW did indeed proclaim himself as the man of 1004 holds, so that’s a tribute all right…

Jericho bids Farewell

Although rumour has been rife that Jericho will be ending his current run with the WWE soon, last night came as a shocker to many. Chris Jericho successfully defeated Dolph Ziggler at Summerslam, contrary to what everyone in the IWC thought. I went as far to predict this feud to continue for some more time, and then, Ziggler  to win over Jericho.

On Monday night, AJ made a contract vs. contract between the two, wherein if Jericho loses, his contract would be terminated, and if Ziggler loses, he would lose his Money in the Bank contract. I for one didn’t believe either one was to happen, and thought it would end in a no-contest or something. But surprisingly, Ziggler won clean. Ziggler countered a lionsault with a pair of knees to the gut of Jericho and pulled Jericho into a Zig Zag for the win.

Jericho didn’t leave quietly, though. Jericho attacked and laid out Ziggler with his MITB briefcase. But for all intents and purposes, Jericho’s current run with the WWE is over. A farewell message issued by Jericho at WWE.com proves it. Jericho can come back later, of course, but his current run is done.

But now that one thinks about it, what did he accomplish in this run? He proved that he is the best in the world, no doubt, but really?

1. He put over Punk, but the putting over was done horribly. Punk should have lost the title at Mania and regained it at Extreme Rules. Chicago would have witnessed its hero getting a personal revenge.

2. He briefly entered the WHC picture, but slipped out soon.

3. He ignited a feud with Orton before both of them got suspended.

4. He entered the MITB match and lost.

5. He put over Ziggler.

In this whole while, he got just one PPV victory. Really this is what Jericho has come down to. I really admire Jericho for putting over guys and not hogging the spotlight, but this is the limit. Chris Jericho was not treated like he should be in his latest run.

But, until next time, we’ll miss you Y2J.

Summerslam Results

Summerslam proved to be one of the better PPVs of WWE. Here are the results:

1.Antonio Cesaro defeated Santino Marella to win the US Title.

Thank God, someone finally took the title from Santino. Santino has been a joke ever since he came to the WWE and I was really beginning to doubt if WWE was going to bury the real wrestlers in the program for comedians. Cesaro is a young and upcoming talent and deserves the title.

2.Chris Jericho defeated Dolph Ziggler.

Really, a lot of the IWC have been shocked by this outcome. I was not. What good does it do for Ziggler if he beats a Chris Jericho, whose greatest claim to fame ever since his return has been winning maybe 2-3 matches on RAW and losing at every PPV he’s been in since his return? Jericho is a sure hall of famer, one of the greatest of all time. That is a given. But ever since he has come back, the only thing he has done is put over talent. I know that this losing streak will never taint Jericho’s legacy, but it will of the talent he puts over. If Ziggler had beaten Jericho, it would have been said that Ziggler beat Jericho when he was at his lowest. This would never have helped Ziggler. Now we have an engrossing feud between the two, and before Jericho leaves, we will see Ziggler beat Jericho. But for now, good booking by the WWE creative team.

3.Daniel Bryan defeated Kane

Frankly, what was the basis of this feud? I surely didn’t follow it.

4.The Miz defeated Rey Mysterio to retain the Intercontinental Championship

Glad that this actually happened. The Miz was overlooked ever since Survivor Series last year when he was blamed for the poor buy rate. But that has all changed since his return after filming the Marine. Miz won the IC title and he sure as hell is on a roll. There is nothing stopping the Miz because well he is awesome.

4.Sheamus defeated Alberto Del Rio and retained the Heavyweight Championship

Sheamus is a hot commodity right now in the WWE. Del Rio, not so much. Del Rio is an amazing in ring competitor, and I am a huge fan. But the problem is he is boring as far as the rest of the WWE universe is concerned. Plus, this must have something to do with the fact that Randy Orton is set to enter the WHC picture, and a feud with Sheamus would draw more money than one with Del Rio.

5.R-Boom defeated the Prime Time Players to retain the WWE Tag Titles

The tag team division has become obsolete. They now have the 3 hour format, now is the perfect time to give some dignity to the titles. Instead of just randomly putting tag matches, let the champs do a promo or two.

6.WWE Champion C M Punk defeated teh Big Show and John Cena to retain the title

Well, C M Punk is being buried right now. Not title run and win-wise, but character wise. Punk has gone from being the outspoken, ever-ready champion to being a cowardly one. Even now, Cena hit the AA on Show, Punk tossed Cena out and pinned Show. However, expect a Punk-Cena match at the next PPV.

7.Brock Lesnar defeated Triple-H via submission.

This match really shocked all of us. Majority of us thought HHH was gonna bury Lesnar. Those of us who thought otherwise expected an HBK interference. But, kudos to the WWE and HHH, Lesnar won clean. And that at least will stop people bitching about HHH’s ego. The man is a true professional, and does what is good for business.

C M Punk Explains…

RAW 1000 ended with one of the most controversial moments in the entire 20 year history of the show. And everyone has been asking amongst themselves and it has been flying all over the social media – Why did Punk do what he did? Did Punk turn heel?

I for one firmly believed that Punk turned heel at the 1000th episode of RAW by putting Rock to sleep. But after replaying the video again and listening closely, I have now revised my view point. Maybe RAW 1001 had something to do with it, but anyway, I stand officially corrected.

C M Punk did not turn heel.

If you listen to the footage again, you will realize that there are not many boos to be heard, and in fact I swear I could hear applause.  The only guy who thought that Punk had  “turned his back on the WWE universe” was Jerry Lawler. Now, I am a huge fan of Lawler, but I think the King completely missed the point there. C M Punk has never pandered to the WWE universe to like hi. He just told the truth, and was himself, and that won the WWE universe over. Oh, and he’s the best wrestler in the world.

C M Punk  came out on RAW 1001 to a positive reaction and he criticized Lawler for jumping to a wrong conclusion. Sitting on the announcer’s table in front of Lawler, Punk delivered another awesome promo. It was not the “pipe bomb” again, but Punk just laid out the truth.

Punk said that he did not turn his back on the WWE universe simply because the Rock is not the WWE universe. He blamed Rock for not showing the WWE Champion the respect that he so richly deserves. He gave Rocky a little taste of what is to come at the Royal Rumble. HE ended the show just like it should have, with the spotlight on the WWE Champion.

Actually Punk made a fabulous point. The Rock is not the WWE universe. The Rock is just a movie star, who left the company for greener pastures. Now, I have nothing against the Rock. He has great mic skills and he has great charisma and in ring talent, but he had his chance. He had his time. He had a chance to stay on in the company and headline the company but he chose to leave.

And now after 8 years he just waltzes in and claims “he’s never leaving again” and maybe did 4 appearances in a  year, and gets to main-event Wrestlemania. The point is that it is a huge injustice to Punk. Punk was overlooked for far too long, and he worked his ass off to get to the top. But even after he gets to the top, he is overshadowed by the likes of Triple H, Undertaker, Cena and the Rock. At least the Game, Taker and Cena are still with the company. But the Rock? He just walks in and inserts himself in the main event of Wrestlemania, and if that wasn’t enough, he now gets a WWE title shot at the Royal Rumble? This is bound to piss off anyone.

Rock is great for the company. But the WWE are missing a key point. The Rock is not going to be around full time. He will show up once in a blue moon, deliver an “electrifying” promo, claim he’s never leaving and he will leave again. He is just not around to craft an interesting story, and the WWE is all about the story.

C M Punk is not going to be overlooked any more. C M Punk will be the face of the WWE finally, just as he deserves to be.

Heel Turn for the Champ????

C M Punk certainly raised a lot of eyebrows at Monday Night RAW’s conclusion. For those who missed it, here’s what happened:

John Cena cashed in his MITB contract on Punk. Mid way through the match, Big Show interfered without the referee seeing and attacked Cena. Not only did Punk not help Cena, Punk covered Cena when Show exited the ring. But Cena kicked out. Show interfered again, this time the referee called for he bell and Cena became the first man in history to not win a title following a MITB cash in. Punk watched on as Show dismantled Cena, and even slid out of the ring. However, someone did make the save, and it was the Rock. Rocky traded hands with the World’s Largest Athlete and went for his People’s Elbow, but he was met with the man who could very well be his opponent at the 2013 Royal Rumble, C M Punk. Punk clotheslined Rocky and dropped him to a vicious GTS. The 1000th episode of RAW ended with the WWE champion CM Punk standing tall over the battered carcasses of three of the top dogs of all time.

Now, did C M Punk turn heel on Monday? Some may say yes, some no.

But as far as I am concerned, Punk turned heel. What is the definition of a heel? It is someone who gets heat from the crowd. He is the villain. Although not quite a villain, Punk looked on as Show dismantled Cena, a true mark of a heel. Not only that, Punk attacked the Rock, one of the all time fan-favourites and getting his first chorus of boos in almost a year. I already mentioned that Punk has been losing steam for some time now. This is the big break that Punk needs. Punk needs to be the guy that he was when he shot to super stardom. He was a heel. And he needs to turn heel.

His rationale? Simple. C M Punk has been WWE champion for over 8 months but was never in a main-event. He never headlined a PPV. His matches were always overshadowed by Cena’s. And as Punk rightly mentioned in his shoot promo, Rock just walked in and secured a spot at Mania. In fact, I really think Cena-Rock was a joke, and this WWE title match for the Rock at the Rumble is another big joke. Rock is not here long enough to craft an interesting storyline.Rock should either return full time or not compete in a championship match at all.

As for the Punk heel turn, Kudos…….

The Era of Punk has finally dawned….

RAW 1000!!!!!!!!!!

RAW completed its 1000th episode on Monday. A truly historic episode, a remarkable feat, so I’d like to start this post by a little bit of gratitude.

For the past 10 years of my life, one thing has changed constant, and that one thing is WWE. It is by watching CM Punk, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho and every single WWE superstar who ever busted their ass to get to the top, who risked their lives day in and day out to entertain the millions like myself, that I find the strength to rise every time I fall. So thank you WWE, and thank you Vince for creating this masterpiece.

Chris Jericho Returns : Is he a face or heel?

After serving a 30 day suspension for denigrating the Brazilian national flag, Chris Jericho returned last Monday night on RAW. Chris made his return interrupting John Cena as he compared the events of the last couple of weeks to Star Wars. Chris and John had a fantastic exchange, and both of them announced that they were going to compete in this year’s Money in the Bank Ladder match. as this happened, the GM for the night Vickie Guerrero interrupted them, reminding them that people can’t put themselves in matches. Chris replied with an emphatic “I am sorry Vickie. What’re you gonna do? Suspend me?” which frankly is the best line I heard that night.

Chris faced Cena that night in an exciting match which was interrupted by the Big Show. Chris exited the ring and allowed Show to lock in the Colossal Clutch on Cena.

Now, a lot of people have been going around saying Chris Jericho returned as a face on Monday. as far as I am concerned, He did not in any way return as a face. Granted that interrupting Cena and mocking him makes Jericho kind-of a face, but his last action of letting Big Show dissect Cena prove that Jericho is a heel. It also may mention that WWE intends to forward the angle between Cena and Show. Maybe Show will cost Cena the match at MITB, allowing Jericho to win (at long last…).

One more thing is, I believe Jericho broke character and the Fourth Wall on Monday when he said “suspend me”. WWE never mentioned Jericho’s suspension on it’s programming, indicating that they didn’t want to reveal it. It was a suspension of belief that Jericho used in his favour. Whatever it was Jericho made an impact.

Let’s just hope Jericho gets a good run, and hopefully wins some classic matches, instead of constantly losing to put over talent.
